2011 was a huge year for Deathwish.
Special thanks to all of you who supported the collective efforts of Deathwish and our Affiliated Artists.

With that said, here is a huge year end list from us for you to peruse at your leisure.
Fuck all the other lists out there, this one is the best.

Feel free to add your own lists/comments to this thread as well.

See you in 2012.

Aye Jay!
www.ayejay.com

- kill all redneck pricks, a movie about KARP.
Bill Bradley (from Federation X) makes a doc about my favorite indie metal band of all time. A story of inspiration, addiction, and redemption. Highly recommended.

-I hate: the art of Todd Bratrud
The modern master of skateboard art's first book is a stunner. It's everything you'd want in an art book. Plus he gave me my first chance to do deck art and I am forever grateful.

-Das Racist, relax
White it may be their "pop" album, I stand by my opinion that nobody doing hip hop is doing anything close to this good, OFWGKTA included.

-Pushead and Aaron Horkey, collaboration prints.
Two of my favorite artists old and new are a match made south of heaven. I say goddamn.

Rare Exports, DVD.
-Finnish Xmas film that may be the best movie I've seen all year. Finally answers the question: if an excavation team unearthed Santa Claus would he be naughty or nice? You guess.

- WTF podcast
I was late to the game on Marc Maron's podcast. Comedian based interviews from an insider. Engrossing and entertaining. I've listened to over 100 episodes!

-John Dyer Baizley, shirts
One of my favorite artists goes for dolo and does an all art, no text shirt series with amazing results. Check em out at www.aperfectmonster.com

-stay gold, real: since day one, shake junt DVDs
Lumped together here, but these are three skate videos you should see. Now.

-Sierra Nevada brewery: Hoptimum
My hometown heroes makes the best, most potent IPA ever. Delicious.

-trader joe's cookie butter.
Though I risk ridicule for including this, it's amazingness cannot be denied. Ever think "I'd love a peanut butter that tasted like cookies?"
Me neither. But oh man, I'm glad they did.

Brian Izzi - Trap Them

Audio:
Burzum - Fallen
Midnight - Satanic Royalty
Virus - Agent That Shapes the Desert
Fucked Up - David Comes To Life
Converge - live shows
Devil's Blood - The Thousandfold Epicentre
Drive soundtrack

Skin I Live in
Hobo With a Shotgun
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
A Dangerous Method

Brian Murphy: Noize Corp. (Tee Til Death, Vinyl Noize, etc.)

1. Earth Balance Soy Nog - organic and delicious. Into it.
2. Xs To Os Vegan Bakery Troy NY - Jesus, so freaking good. Canoes for everyone! Give me some more of those cinnamon rolls.
3. Wahoos Veggie Burrito - after a long day of Sound And Fury 2011, this burrito was perhaps the best thing I've ever ate in my entire life. Loved it.
4. Trader Joe's Cookie Spread - Is it peanut butter, is it dessert? No idea, but it tastes stupid good in a toasted sandwich with banana.
5. Starbursts UK - Starbursts in America have gelatin. Fuck gelatin. Starbursts in the UK have "vegetable fats." WIN! Shared these with some long time vegans at a Bane gig in Worcester. They were beyond psyched, and weren't even aware that the UK variety were vegan. The same was once true for Skittles as well. But if you're into black currant skittles, you'll still have to get those from the UK.
6. Junior Mints Holiday Edition - that's right, no gelatin in these either. Remember that rumor years ago where someone knew someone who knew someone who called the Junior Mint people and confirmed the gelatin was veg-friendly? I loved pre internet vegan rumors.
7. Veggie Galaxy in Cambridge Mass - this is what the east coast needs. A for real diner with all the usual diner eats. Get the onion rings and malted frappe. You'll thank me for it.
8. Pulse Cafe - RIP. This was a good spot to hit up before shows at the Middle East. No longer. I'll miss your sandwiches.
9. Making your own granola - I eat cereal EVERY morning. Do you know how expensive that is? And how much crap I was stuffing in my gullet? Yuck. Now I make my own. It's all part of a typical sunday night. Oats, cinnamon, nuts, coconut flakes, brown sugar, vanilla and a little vegetable oil. Now we're talking.
10. Being vegan. Do it for the animals. It's easy. No more gross, brown water soy milk in weird anti-septic containers. In 2011, you have no excuse NOT being vegan.

Bjorn / Rise And Fall

- Ending up in the same parallel universe as Bobby Liebling and Pentagram, twice in one year.
- Recording "Faith", the upcoming Rise And Fall album, the way I'd always hoped an album recording would/could be. A truly awesome experience. Thanks again to everyone involved.
- Vince and Chrissie made a baby, named her Sophia and asked me to be her godfather. So cool. I bought her her first pair of jeans.
- Feist - "Metals" LP. This lady can do no wrong.
- Converge, live in June 2011. Relentless and inspiring.
- Listening to Patrick Kindlon's babbling, in real life, on YouTube and on Deathwish Podcasts.
- Finding a new indoor soccer team to play with.
- All Pigs Must Die - "God Is War" LP.
- Hawks And Doves - "Year One". I had been waiting for this since "Mercy" came out and it did not disappoint.
- Morrissey, always.

Top 10 Reasons to Stay Home on Friday Night.

10. You're broke. Or you're not, but THEY don't have to know that. Isn't it a little more endearing to be poor? Especially when you aren't.
09. High speed internet. There is an endless amount of ignorant shit on the internet. You should be well versed in it all.
08. The general public sucks. Why leave when you can invite the few people you like in? This seems obvious to me.
07. Call of Duty. Why worry about the war going on outside when you can fight an inconsequential war inside?
06. You should be booking house shows. Invite 100 people over at $6 a head to front flip off your couch, dummy.
05. Your pet needs your attention. After a long work/school week, assuming you're not a complete asshole, your pet misses you.
04. They haven't figured out how to play vinyl via iPod yet. You claim you love music, right? Love it like it show be loved. Sit in front of a record player and listen to music you paid for.
03. Did you know that if you spent every night at home practicing how to breakdance...you could eventually breakdance?
02. Global warming. It's probably unseasonably cold, hot, rainy, etc. Be comfortable in a climate controlled environment that further ruins the climate outdoors.
01. Isn't everything disappointing all the time? What a disappointing #1 for instance. But, every time you go out, don't you have some expectation of it being really fun and it is just mediocre at best? Be honest. Just stay home and watch the friends you really don't like make drunken assholes of themselves on Twitter.

***This list is mostly a joke. You should go out every night possible in support of art and community and maybe even occasionally with less altruistic motives. Be kind to everyone who is tolerable enough to be kind to. Love.***

Always a fun read!

This has been one of the most eventful years in my life.

Top ten albums I listened to this year (not necessarily out this year):

Slint - Spiderland
Pianos Beceome the Teeth - the Lack Long After
Chelsea Wolfe - Apokalypsis
Self Defense Family - Everything
Title Fight - Shed
Tigers Jaw - Spirit Desire
Ceremony - Ronhert Park
Cara Neir - Stagnant Perceptions (check that shit if you haven't heard it)
Coalesce - OX
108 - Everything

Other:

The Tree of Life (Terrence Malick)

Losing 75 lbs and taking charge of my physical health
Graduating from the University of South Florida with a bachelors in Creative Writing
The Arab Spring (inspiring beyond words)
The Occupy Movement (perhaps misguided but still inspiring)
The Daily Show
Starting musical projects with musicians and people I admire
Reading the Self Defense Family tumblr

Thanks for being such an awesome label DW.

"i think it says something about the state of music when 3 of the records on my list are unreleased anthologies that were recorded 30 years ago."
Not seen: Nate telling whomever took this photo to get off his lawn.

All semi-kidding aside, I always look forward to the year-end Deathwish best of list and this did not disappoint. Thanks for continuing to release and promote music with substance.

A happy and healthy 2012 to you all.
